Hey everyone, this is my first forum so be gentle. I am a conservative who normally does not care in the slightest bit about social issues. However, I do have a homosexual marriage stance. At the moment America grants a marriage license to any man and woman that sign up. Who is America to decide who can be married or not? Marriage is an element of religion, not politics. Britney Spears has no more of a right to get a shotgun wedding than two men. America should not have control over this situation. As a result, America should not be able to give two catholics a marriage license. It is an improper use of the term "marriage" from a religious stand point. America has one right, and that right it to tax people who file jointly different than people who file single. There should be no ethical debate. Here is my proposition to end the marriage debate. America should grant no one a marriage license. Instead they should clearly define joint filing as any two people with a civil union license. A civil union should only be granted to two people with joint income. Otherwise, America should recognize everyone the same. An additional benefit to this would be that the beauty that is marriage would no longer be diminished by shotgun Vegas weddings. Those people would just get a civil union license like everyone else. At the moment, we are not following the separation of church and state because we assume the right to define marriage, and that is an outrage.
