I just read an article that South Carolina's education spending is now over $11,000 per student with some areas over $17,000 per student, yet we are still at the bottom of the national list. My daughter is 16 and attending college now. Not one cent of government money was spent on her. For those who say that we need more money, I'd say that we need to step back and take a look not at how much is being spent (although that's important) but HOW it is being spent.

Wow, that is a very interesting statistic. I'm glad you pointed that out. I can't stand the argument about educational problems. It seems the only solution anyone ever suggests is more money. Obviously this doesn't work. Throwing money at someone doesn't make them smarter. The real problem in education is the removal of an incentive for effective teaching. A merrit based system is appropriate for education because bad teachers will be forced out. If a class has 30 kids, each of them valued at 11 grand in tax payer money, one teacher is in control of 330,000 dollars. At the moment, that one teacher can do the manditory minimum and recieve a raise next year.
