The religious identify a social problem and then they consult their ideology for a solution. Dogma in religious texts bears no relation to the real world: dogma is a prescriptive program for making the real world conform to preconceived notions.
If we are to deal with our social problems, we have to look at them objectively and apply our best investigative and analysis schemes. The religious ideologues favor continuing programs like abstinence only even when they are demonstrable failures. It is the dogma that they are interested in, not what works.

How Liberal is it of me that I say you should be able to teach your children whatever method of contraception and whatever religious (or non-religious) beliefs that you want? And how anti-Liberal of you to sugggest that you know better how people should be taught than everyone else? I thought one of the MAIN tenets of Liberalism was tolerance! Why is it that they are tolerant of all sorts of deviant behavior, yet religious behavior is to be condemned so harshly?

Assuming that we wish to reduce the team pregnancy rate, which at any rate isn't really the government's business, should we not include all the strategies that we know of in teen/young adult education? It seems to me absurd to condemn one side or the other rather arbitrarily, if both (I presume) have a chance of convincing a young person.
